Beach of Dreams Celebration Event
Join us on Sunday 11th May at Sandhaven Beach for a FREE day at Sandhaven Beach, where 600 Beach of Dreams flags will be placed in the sand, designed by community groups around the country.
Stronger Shores have commissioned seven flags which have been designed by three local community groups: Sisters of Shields (a Women’s Institute in South Shields); Creative Seed (a community interest group in Sunderland); and Horden Together (a youth group in Durham), as well as the Stronger Shores team.
From 10am, visit the local stalls and explore the flags on the beach. There will also be an outdoor art exhibition on the beach, presenting the artwork that has been produced as part of the Beach of Dreams project.
At 11am a contemporary dance performance will take place on the beach, led by Creative Seed, between the flags. From 12pm, we’ll be treated to a carnival parade, led by Creative Seed. Finally from 1pm, find us at the amphitheatre for more community activities led by Creative Seed.
